Amazon to Air a Tig Notaro Series

In the ebb and flow of time, 2015 will be firmly known as the Year of Tig. Comedian Tig Notaro had Knock, Knock, It’s Tig Notaro air on Showtime in April, just had Tig debut on Netflix this month, and her HBO Special Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted will air next month on August 22nd. All of the attention and acclaim that she garnered for her absolutely incredible Largo standup set known as “Live” (that’s “live” the verb, not “live” the adjective) has manifested itself into a year of feature after feature.

Now, according to Vulture, the string of success is continuing with a series greenlight by Amazon. The series will put Tig in both starring and writing roles, with Diablo Cody (Juno) co-writing and Louis C.K. executive producing. Given the sheer talent of the three, and with the source material being drawn from Tig’s own life, we’re expecting that the series will be both high-caliber comedy and a shoe-in for award season. It was Louis C.K. who was instrumental in convincing Tig to release her now-iconic Largo set as an audio album. The pilot for this semi-autobiographical series was produced originally for FX, home of C.K.’s Louie.

Showtime’s Knock, Knock, It’s Tig Notaro follows the comedian with friend and opening act Jon Dore as they travel across the country performing standup sets in the houses, back yards, corn fields, and local hangouts of fans. Netflix’s Tig is an intimate documentary that looks into Tig’s life after her cancer diagnosis (among, as you may very well know, many other personal tragedies that befell Notaro one right after the other.) Her HBO special will be her first new feature-length standup special since the release of “Live.”

Tig’s brand new, just-launched Twitter account is being run for the month by 30 of her closest comedian friends. The first day of tweeting was curated by Sarah Silverman, and the second day was Kumail Nanjiani. Follow along as they bring Tig kicking and sighing to the world of social media.
