New ALTERED CARBON Trailer Shows the Future of Immortality

In the futuristic world of Altered Carbon, anyone can live forever…if they’re rich. As laid out in Richard K. Morgan’s cyberpunk novel of the same name, human bodies can be customized for powerful clients who cheat death by having their memories inserted into fresh hosts. But as you can see in the latest trailer for Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Altered Carbon, that immortality can also be used to enslave other people. At the very beginning of the new footage, Joel Kinnaman‘s character, Takeshi Kovacs, is unwillingly resurrected and immediately forced into the service of a new master.

Over two hundred years before the series, Takeshi was an assassin whose revolution cost him his life. Now he’s essentially a slave to the very people that he rose up against. His benefactor is Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), one of the richest men in the world. Bancroft is offering Takeshi his freedom if he manages to solve the mystery of who killed Bancroft’s previous body. For the first time in decades, Bancroft and his associates have a real reason to fear death, and he’s holding Takeshi’s new life in his hands if Takeshi fails to find the killer quickly.

The trailer also offers up a much better glimpse of the series, which is rumored to be one of the most expensive original shows on Netflix. So far, we’re loving the Blade Runner-esque visuals and we want to see more.

Altered Carbon on Friday, February 2.
