Netflix’s ALTERED CARBON Trailer Sets Up a Sci-Fi Murder Mystery

Early next year, Netflix’s ambitious adaptation of Richard K. Morgan’s cyberpunk novel Altered Carbon will introduce viewers to a sci-fi vision of the future in which death has been rendered almost irrelevant. For the rich and powerful, there is no end of life as long as they can keep getting their memories placed in new bodies. However, that doesn’t mean that murder is a thing of the past. In the newest teaser trailer for Altered Carbon, James Purefoy’s Laurens Bancroft reveals that not even his vast wealth could protect him from an attempt on his life. Now, Bancroft wants to solve his own murder with the help of Joel Kinnaman‘s Takeshi Kovacs.

The previous Altered Carbon teaser introduced Kinnaman’s character and set up his backstory. Several hundred years before the events of the series, Kovacs (as played by Will Yun Lee) was a leader in a revolutionary movement that ended badly. Not even death saved Kovacs’ mind from spending centuries in storage before Bancroft placed him within a new body (Kinnaman). From there, Kovacs is tasked to solve Bancroft’s murder in return for his freedom in a world that he barely recognizes.

It’s almost impossible not to get a Blade Runner vibe from this trailer and the first images from the series, but the visuals are very impressive. Altered Carbon is reportedly one of Netflix’s most expensive shows to date, and that seems to have been put to good use.

The entire first season of Altered Carbon will hit Netflix on Friday, February 2, 2018.
