Attention all Tenth Doctor fans out there, and I know there are many: The BBC is releasing a massive, 26-disc set of the entirety of David Tennant’s four years as our favorite Time Lord. It will include all of series 2-4 of Doctor Who plus all of the specials and both of the animated serials that came out. From what I can tell, it’s just the same as what were released individually, but if you don’t have them, this is a good way of getting everything in one fell swoop. The release date for the boxed set is October 11th (or 10-11) and the packaging (above) looks both fancy and schmancy.

I’m waiting for a “BUT THAT’S NOT ALL”.
for less than $100 i got seasons 1-4 of new who in a cool box set AND the specials box set from amazon.co.uk. yeah you’re going to need a region free dvd player but its worth it. i dont want to pay an extra $100 for those crappy cartoons. plus the box set i got has eccleston’s run. even if you were to buy the box sets i have and a region free player it would still be less than theyre charging for just the tenant boxset.
DW for newbies sounds like a good way to catch up on the first 8 doctors. Is there a list of articles for them somewhere? a search brought about quite a few hits.
I understand the “theme,” but not including series 1 in this set is really lame, particularly since it only tells “half” of Rose’s story.
Also, Tennant’s first episode “Xmas Invasion” already includes long established minor characters like Harriet Jones and Jackie Tyler, and doesn’t really serve as a “pilot” for Ten’s run the way that “Eleventh Hour” was essentially a pilot for Eleven, so it’s more than a little odd.
Why didn’t they create a “Russel T Davies years” set instead?

I was thinking the same thing. If they REALLY wanted these bought by people that already own S1-Specials, they should’ve tossed in something extra that was not previously available on any DVD/boxed set. Had that been the case I would’ve been all over it.
Like you, I haven’t ruled it out yet. If anything because it’s a very nice-looking set and I don’t have the two animated episodes (because I didn’t really care much for either).
It does seem like a ‘must have’ for a Tenth Doctor fan and I am certainly one. Maybe once the price comes down? 😉
If I didn’t already have them I would totally snag this box set up! Not completely ruling it out.. yet.
Wish they could have added something else to the boxset. I know the individual ones had the bloopers, deleted scenes and video diaries but it would be nice if there was a little extra something to purchase these again.

Also just thought of this re: Blu-ray
Since it looks like this is just a repackaging of all the old DVDs, they don’t have to do any further “work,” just re-manufacture the discs from the old sets in a new package. It’s a matter of cost.

Kanderson, I have a habit of reading every one of you articles on the day they’re posted, and your DW for Newbs has taught me to appreciate Classic Who.

It’s a matter of film versus video. Film can easily be upgraded to high definition but video cannot. It’s either HD or SD and that way it will stay. Same reason classic Doctor Who probably won’t be released on Blu-ray, unless it’s some sort of full-season thing since a lot more SD info can fit on a Blu-ray disc, which they could have done here too.
I have Modern Times on Blu-ray. Surely this could be but on Blu, if for nothing else than to make it fit with my other Blu-rays and have less discs. I dislike that reasoning of if not being shot in HD for not being on Blu.
No, because nothing until the Specials were shot in Hi-Def. Not worth it to put a Blu-ray of SD video tape, though it would save on discs.
