Alanis Morissette’s JAGGED LITTLE PILL Will Be a Musical

We think “You Oughta Know” about this “Perfect” bit of news that is sure to send a wave of ’90s pop music nostalgia “Right Through You:” Alanis Morissette‘s classic and beloved album Jagged Little Pill will be heading to the stage as a brand new musical.

The 1995 mega-smash record (over 33 million copies sold to date!!), which among its many accolades took home the Grammy for Album of the Year, is being adapted by Diablo Cody (writer of Juno), with Tom Kitt (American Idiot) composing, and it will be directed by Tony-winner Diane Paulus. It’s set to make its debut in May of 2018, at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. (And we’d bet with such a stellar production team and great source material, eventually to Broadway.)

According to a press release for Jagged Little Pill the musical, it will use the album’s songs to tell a story “that revolves around a modern and multi-generational family and their complex dynamics, touching on issues of gender identity and race.” That’s way better than our original idea, which was a musical about a bunch of friends driving around aimlessly in 1995 listening to the album on repeat.

““The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honored to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent,” said Morissette in the statement, “Diablo and Diane are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul’s marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom and complexity.”

“All I Really Want” to know now is when I can put my “Hand in my Pocket” and hand over money for a ticket.

What song are you most excited hear adapted into this musical? You won’t be “Forgiven” if you don’t tell us in the comments below.
