Alan Silvestri was one of the first composers to leave his stamp on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s only fitting that heâll get to close out Phase 3 of Marvel’s film slate. And on Tuesdayâvia his official websiteâSilvestri confirmed his return to the MCU for Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2.
If you love film scores, this is fantastic news. Silvestri is one of the all-time greats in the industry, with an impressive list of credits that includes the Back to the Future trilogy, Romancing the Stone, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Predator, Contact, The Mummy Returns, The Abyss, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Silvestri also previously wrote the music for Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, a theme that was one of the most memorable pieces of music from the entire MCU, later retained for Avengers: Age of Ultron and recomposed by Danny Elfman (Brian Tyler did the rest of the score).
Avengers: Infinity War represents a unique opportunity for Silvestri to create music for almost all of the Marvel heroes who have appeared in the Cinematic Universe to date. The Russo brothers have hinted that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be in Infinity War, and we’d be very surprised if Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, and the Wasp didnât show up as well.
And here’s our own Dan Casey’s chat with the Russo Brothers on that very topic:
Marvel has set Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 for May 4, 2018, while Part 2 will follow on May 3, 2019.
