Alan Menken is important to your childhood. You might not realize it, but at one time or another, you’ve heard one of his songs. Menken is the musical maestro behind the Disney classics The Little Mermaid , Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin (as well as several others) and best known on the Broadway circuit as the mind behind 1982’s Little Shop of Horrors.Â
Today, Deadline.com broke the story that ABC has given a pilot order to Menken’s next fairytale based musical, a single-camera comedy written by The Neighbors creator Dan Fogelman, with lyrics by Menken’s frequent collaborator Glenn Slater. called Galavant. The story follows the handsome Prince Galavant and his quest for revenge over the King who stole his one true love.
Earlier this year Menken and Fogelman collaborated on a musical episode of The Neighbors, which earned the series an outstanding music and lyrics Emmy nomination. They pair, along with Slater, have also previous worked together on Disney’s Tangled .
