A Soulful Jazz Cover of the POKÉMON Theme Song

I’m pretty sure ’90s kids will be the first to tell you how absolutely awesome the Pokémon theme song is. It’s catchy, inspirational, and makes you want to go out on a quest and catch ’em all.

Unfortunately, we all need to grow up at some point, which means rocking out to the Pokémon theme song should probably be saved  for when we aren’t out in public. That is, until now. The always lovely, Sara Niemietz, did a soulful Jazz cover of the beloved song, and it’s absolutely brilliant. The video was recently posted on the personal youtube channel of Scott Bradlee–who is better known for his work on the Postmodern Jukebox channel. Check out the video above.

This cover is pretty sweet, and though I love the cover of Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya‘ and Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies‘, this has to be my favorite. I still remember singing along to this song everyday when I was young. Heck, I loved this song so much that I embarrassingly still played it in my late teens. I’m telling you, it’s a great hype song that deals with friendship, courage, and loyalty. Who needs Drake, right?

The Jazz twist also feels oddly fitting, which is impressive considering the fact that not many children shows have a theme song that could make the transition as gracefully as Pokémon.

Like what you heard? Make sure to check out our coverage of the other great covers by Postmodern Jukebox here. Do you love this song as much as I do? Is there any other anime you want to get this Jazz treatment? Let us know in the comments below.
