A Sharktastic Cake for Your SHARKNADO 3 Viewing Party

The internet’s most talked about movies, Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One, were such hits that Syfy is coming back for more on July 22 with a third installment. Tara Reid and Ian Ziering are back in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! which promises more blood, more ridiculous deaths, and more super amazing cameos. It’s a television event that’s truly not to be missed. There’s only one way to celebrate this awful, awesomeness and that’s with cake!

For last year’s milestone sharktastic TV event, I made a special Sharknado 2 cake for TableTop‘s own Wil Wheaton and his wife Anne, who were two of the featured casualties in the movie. If you’re flying commercial, take out shark insurance, just saying.

To make this grandiose homage to deadly sharks, I baked and stacked three tiers of cake and carved them inversely, starting at the top and forming a smaller base. Dowels were used to keep the tiers together, then I frosted the entire thing with a lovely sea-colored blue and white buttercream.

The crazier I made the swirls the more chaotic and tornado-like the cake became. To complete the tragic weather-disaster of a cake, I applied a menagerie of bloody cookie sharks and Star Trek ships. The flavor of cake was Blood Red Velvet, making each slice more horrifying than the next.
