A Lot of Amiibo News Revealed in Today’s Nintendo Direct

If you’re crazy about amiibos then today’s Nintendo Direct probably has gotten you pumped. In addition to the revelation that the wave 3 Super Smash Bros. (which we already knew about) would be arriving next month, Nintendo also announced the contents of the next wave which will include Lucina, Wario, Ness, Robin, Pac-Man and Charizard. The group will be available April 24th.

In case you didn’t have your sights set on enough amiibo’s, Nintendo also revealed the Super Mario amiibo series to release alongside Mario Party 10 on March 20, 2015. The lineup includes Peach, Yoshi, Bowswer, Toad and of course Mario and Luigi. As we revealed in another post, these figures will unlock the brand new mode “Amiibo Party” whilst playing Mario Party 10.

Whats great about Nintendo’s tiny treasures is that they are compatible across games. This means that the Super Smash Bros figures: Rosalina, Wario and Donkey Kong will all be compatible with Mario Party 10. The same goes for a couple of the other crossover characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser. That’s a relief especially since buying multiple Marios or a pleathora of Peaches isn’t feasible for everybody’s budget (or shelf space).

It was also mentioned that the Nintendo 3DS will be the first portable game system to receive amiibo compatibility. Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy + will also use the toys. But wait– don’t we need an NFC scanner for that? Well, the New Nintendo 3DS XL has one built in and a peripheral will be released later this year for the new system’s predecessors.

The Direct also touched on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker’s future amiibo compatibility. Come March 20th, the brand new Toad amiibo will introduce a new hide and seek feature where players must find Toad in every level. Seeing how the figures are utilized in the different games is definitely interesting.

I’m into them. I had random disney figures that did nothing when I was a kid, who’s to say when nintendo goes belly up years from now these guys won’t be something for collectors? That and.. they are just super freaking cute. It’s like a rehashed Beanie Baby craze with plastic.

Right now, after seeing others play with Amiibos, I don’t want to shell out $12 just to fight them.
