A LEGEND OF KORRA Tabletop Game Will Be Your Latest Deck-Building Adventure

If you’re still missing the Avatar franchise (no, not that one—the other one) and can’t get your fix through the comics, fear not: a Legend of Korra deck-building board game is on the horizon. According to Gizmodo, IDW Games and Nickelodeon are forming a partnership that will produce a series of board games, all rooted in the Last Airbender and Korra worlds. The Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena is the first.

Pro-bending was a highlight of Legend of Korra’s first season; it united Korra with Mako and Bolin, and while later seasons lacked the high-quality animation of the first, pro-bending always looked about as awesome as you’d expect from Nickelodeon. The game capitalizes on the fast pace and fierce competition of pro-bending through a unique one-on-one format that pits the Future Industries Fire Ferrets (Korra’s team) and the rival White Falls Wolf Bats. Players will use a combination of deck building and token deployment to make their way across the board. As in Korra, victory is yours when you’ve pushed the other team’s members off the board completely.

Legend of Korra was never quite as much of a kids’ series as The Last Airbender could be (which is not to say Avatar: The Last Airbender didn’t get dark; “Appa’s Lost Days” is still one of the most traumatizing things I’ve ever seen). So it checks out that the game is for ages 14 and up, though some younger tabletop gamers should still be up to the task of taking down the Wolf Bats.

No dates have been disclosed, but the game’s tentative in-store release will happen this fall. In the meantime, IDW and Nickelodeon will be launching a Kickstarter as a promotional (and, obviously, money-making) tool. The final product is set to retail for $50.

Are you a Fire Ferret or a Wolf Bat? Or maybe a Sabretooth Moose Lion? Let us know in the comments!
