A Kingdom Falls in New KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV Trailer

Later this year, the next chapter in the Final Fantasy game series will be released alongside a new feature length animated film from Sony Pictures Entertainment and Square Enix. And at E3, a brand new trailer for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV made its debut!

Within the world of Final Fantasy XV, a Kingsglaive is a magically empowered royal guard in the kingdom of Lucis. Apparently, Lucis is all that stands between the empire of Niflheim and world domination. Both the game and the Kingsglaive movie share an inciting incident—when the proposed truce between Lucis and Niflheim turns out to be a pretense for an invasion.

While the game will focus on Noctis Lucis Caelum, the crown prince of Lucis, the film follows Nyx (Aaron Paul), one of the Kingsglaive who has been assigned to protect Prince Noctis’ bride-to-be, Luna (Lena Headey). Sean Bean co-stars in the film as King Regis, the father of Noctis.

Luna is reportedly one of the main characters in Final Fantasy XV as well, and the movie represents a unique opportunity to flesh out the world of the game and introduce characters who appear in both sides of the story. Whether Nyx is one of the characters who will also appear in the game remains to be seen.

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV will get a limited theatrical release in the United States on Friday, August 16. A digital and home video release for the movie will occur before the September 30th launch of Final Fantasy XV on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
