A HELLO KITTY Movie Is Coming to the Big Screen

Let out your biggest squee Sanrio fans, Hello Kitty is going to be a movie star! Sanrio is taking over the world one paw print at a time and has plans for a feature film revolving around Miss Kitty herself.

Last year, Sanrio put together the massively successful Hello Kitty Con where fans from all over the world gathered to celebrate the cat/non-cat and this year they’ve taken the tour on the road. Now comes the announcement that Sanrio Media & Pictures Entertainment is looking to build a movie around the iconic kitty. The project is said to be shooting for a release in 2019 and has a whopping budget between $160 million-$240 million. That’s a whole lotta cat bucks.

You’d think not having a mouth and being over 40 years old would work against her in Hollywood, but Hello Kitty’s resilience remains steady. Sanrio is also looking into featuring their other popular characters. Who wouldn’t want to see inside the daily lives of Little Twin Stars or Keroppi?

The idea of Hello Kitty on screen isn’t that far off; she’s a media mogul and has already had her own television shows, both animated and live-action. She’s released and album and also starred in her own video games. In addition to her digital empire, Hello Kitty’s face has graced everything from dumplings to hoodies and now with her new major motion picture, her world domination is unstoppable.
