At the last two conventions I’ve attended, there have been exhibitors dressing up models in costumes. I’m not talking about spandex or corsets; they’re using paint. Models keep all their bits and parts covered while artists paint on patterns and superhero costumes. The results are anything but flat and often have impressive shading, highlights, and details.

For example, take a close look at the Iron Throne (from Game of Thrones) pictured below. It’s made of people! Actually, that concept is so creepy that I’m surprised George R.R. Martin didn’t go that route for the books. Every person is painted with swords, and it’s a trippy illusion. I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into creating this incredible breathing art by Julie Hassett.

We were so floored by the human Iron Throne that we rounded up some other examples of geeky body paint. The gallery doesn’t feature any unmentionables; it’s like the cosplayers are wearing really tight fabric.
