Building novelty musical instruments might be our favorite non-contact sport as of late, because the results are so wildly unusual every time. The latest street smart hybrid creation to catch our attention is the Lap Skate Guitar. Yep, it’s a totally functioning electric guitar built onto the blank wooden deck of a skateboard. Finally, the marriage we’ve been waiting for!
NY-based design company Stereotank is responsible for this awesomeness, and according to their website, the Lap Skate Guitar is a “hybrid that combines skateboarding and music into one sliding experience.” As you can see in the demonstration above, it produces mellow sounds similar to the Lap Steel Guitar. This thing is pretty impressive and slick, if we do say so ourselves.
You can see the pieces they used in the diagram below. It looks deceptively simple, as all great inventions are.
The bluegrassy sound that comes out of this instrument is pretty legit actually, too bad it’s not for sale (hint: more please)! There are numerous skaters who play guitar when the sun goes down, so it seems like demand would be huge. Also, it looks just as easy to transport as an actual skateboard. Sigh, if only the board could be ridable as well, then this thing would be a double threat! Still, props to Stereotank, you’ve made a seriously rad product.
What do you think of the Lap Skate Guitar? Do you dig it? Are you a skater who plays guitar? Reach out on Twitter, or sound off in the comments below.Â
