A Fan-Run DOCTOR WHO Murder Mystery Is Coming to Kentucky

The Doctor isn’t only a traveler through time and space. He has many labels, and one of them is detective. He may stumble about, wave his arms around, and cause trouble before he gets around to solving the mystery before him, but he eventually gets there. He’s not as precise as Batman, but he gets the job done. Therefore, it only makes sense that a theater group would write a murder mystery featuring Doctor Who flair.

Fantastical Theatricals, a traveling interactive theater based in Kentucky, is putting on “Doctor! Who is the Murderer?” this summer. The mystery was written by Kathy Hobbs, and as far as I can tell, this all fan-run and unofficial. The premise for the murder mystery is a little meta: a fan is hosting a Doctor Who convention with hopes that a very special guest of honor will attend. Unfortunately, the convention’s security guy is not who he appears to be – he’s an evil Master of Disguise and the arch nemesis of the convention’s very special guest of honor.

Because it’s a murder mystery, you’ve probably guessed that someone dies. The special guest of honor has to figure out who was responsible and turns to the audience for assistance in locating the killer. Guests can participate as much as they’d like and even come in costume and enter a contest. I’d like to attend just to see the costumes.

Shows will happen at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort in Carslisle, Kentucky, and The Chop House in Lexington, Kentucky. Visit Fantastical Theatricals’ site for details on how to purchase tickets for any of their eight shows.

Thank you for the mention, much appreciated! This is meant to be a spoof of Doctor Who, and a love letter to Whovians. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and is not to be considered canon at all. I wrote the play at the request of Blue Licks Battlefield State Park and agreed that Lexington should get a chance to see it as well.
