3 BLACK WIDOW Stories Perfect For Her Solo Film

Earlier this week, the trailer for Red Sparrow, Jennifer Lawrence‘s Russian spy movie, once again had Marvel fans asking one question: “where’s our Black Widow movie?!” It’s been nearly a decade since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began, and somehow the founding member of the Avengers still doesn’t have her own film. But in a fortuitous bit of timing, Marvel finally had some good news for Black Widow fans. Jac Schaeffer is going to write the script, and today’s Nerdist News is all about the three Black Widow storylines that would be perfect for her big screen solo debut.

Join host and the Red Room’s second best operative, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down the Black Widow comics that we’d love to see translated into film. There are actually a lot of stories to choose from, especially from within the last twenty years. But there’s no better place to start off than “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” the Marvel Knights storyline that reinvigorated Black Widow and introduced her younger counterpart, Yelona Belova.

Yelena’s desire to usurp Natasha’s code name and her legacy would make an excellent film, but so would a few others. “The Name of the Rose” raised the stakes even higher for Natasha when she was framed as a traitor and became a fugitive. The only downside to that tale is that it’s kind of already been done with Captain America: Civil War. It’s a little too soon to go back to that well, but certain elements of that story could be incorporated into the first film.

But the best choice for a Black Widow movie is pretty obvious to us: the one-two punch of “S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Most Wanted” and “No More Secrets,” which featured some of the best comic book action that we’ve ever seen. In that 12-issue series, Natasha was blackmailed into working for the bad guys to protect some of her most damaging secrets, even if it meant betraying S.H.I.E.L.D. and most of her allies. That does seem to be a trend for her stories. But trust us, you’re gonna want to see this sequence play out onscreen.

Which Black Widow stories should be adapted for her first feature film? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
