12 MONKEYS Casts GAME OF THRONES and STAR TREK Actors (Exclusive)

Stopping the essence of time itself is no small feat, but something tells us the newest additions to the Army of the 12 Monkeys are up for the challenge. In a fun bit of genre-bending, Syfy’s time traveling thriller, 12 Monkeys (yes, that adaptation of the film from 1995 that we’ve been telling you to watch for a while now), has tapped none other than Hannah Waddingham—a.k.a. Septa “Shame Nun” Unella from Game of Thrones—and Faran Tahir—most recently seen as Captain Nemo on Once Upon a Time, but you know him from SO many things—for recurring roles on the show next season, as we can exclusively reveal to you right here on Nerdist!

Cue the air horns of celebration (but not too loudly; we don’t want to alert the Army to our presence)!

Of course, that’s not all we know about what’s in store for season three of Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett’s twisty and epic retelling: we also know who they’re playing. Waddingham will take on the character named Magdalena, a member of an apocalyptic cult charged with protecting the Witness. You know, that spooky-scary mystery man with a plan to end all of time itself? (Also ostensibly the leader of the Army of the 12 Monkeys and, major spoiler alert, the son of Cassie and Cole?) Dubbed “both ruthless and expedient” in her methods, something tells us she won’t be so far off from her shame bell-wielding days on Thrones.

As for Tahir, whom you may also know from Star Trek and Iron Man and basically every other genre thing to come out in the last few years, will play Mallick, an imposing and “devout enforcer of the Army of the 12 Monkeys” who resides in Titan. But what’s his deal? As of now, we’re unsure. But hey, mystery’s half the fun of this show, right?

Especially when you consider what’s in store. In Season 3, James Cole and Cassandra Railly embark on a desperate search across time to find the aforementioned Witness, the time traveler responsible for the apocalypse. Killing the Witness will save the world, but the journey will come at tremendous personal stakes for both Cole and Railly, and call into question new alliances, old bonds, and the virtue of the mission itself.

Dun, dun, duuuuun! Mystery! Intrigue! Time travel! Gaius Baltar and Doc Brown! Literally what more could you want from a show? (Nothing. The answer’s nothing.) Are you excited about the casting? Let us know in the comments below.
