You could say I’m a bit of a donut fan. Scratch that, I’m straight up obsessed. I was once a judge in a donut competition where I had to taste 40 dozen different donuts. You heard that right, I said FORTY dozen; it will probably be on my gravestone.
I adore Disney just as much as I love donuts so I was thrilled when I heard that Randy’s Donuts in Inglewood, California was transforming their iconic giant donut sign into a tribute to Zootopia.
In the movie Judy Hopps foils Duke Weaselton’s getaway with a giant runaway donut sign from the local bakery in Little Rodentia. To celebrate Disney’s Oscar win for best Animated Feature Film, the real shop’s sign has been transformed to look like a scene from the film, and it just happens to coincide with the one year anniversary of the Zootopia’s release.
Randy’s is no stranger to fame; the giant donut sign has been featured on television and in films for decades. Its most notable performance was in another Disney-owned film, Marvel’s Iron Man 2 where Robert Downey Jr. can be seen lounging in the giant, sweet structure, eating donuts.
Drive down the 405 freeway in Los Angeles and you’re sure to catch a glimpse of Randy’s 32-foot-high sign. Here’s how it looks from across the freeway:
Here’s how it looks driving down Manchester Boulevard:
And finally, here’s how it looks from across the street.
Call me the paparazzi of pastry, but you get the picture, this is seriously one big donut. No word on how long this tribute will be up, but Disney fans should grab their selfies while they can and pick up one of Randy’s famous apple fritters or lusciously pink cherry iced donuts while they’re at it.
Check out Randy’s huge menu of donuts online, all of which are available 24-hours at day at their shop.
