Zoe Saldana has lined up her third comic book adaptation with a leading role in I Kill Giants, which is based upon the Image Comics miniseries by writer Joe Kelly and artist J. M. Ken Niimura.
The story of I Kill Monsters revolves around Barbara Thorson, a young girl who escapes the problems of her everyday life by retreating into a fantasy world in which she slays monsters and giants. However, Barbaraâs fantasy life begins to bleed into her perception of the real world, leaving her convinced that giants are coming. In the movie, Barbara will be played by a young actress named Madison Wolfe.
Saldanaâs role is Mrs. Mollé, the school psychologist who forms a close bond with Barbara while attempting to help her. I Kill Giants co-creator, Kelly wrote the feature film adaptation that will be directed by Anders Walter. It is expected to begin production next year.
There are very few actresses who can match the geek cred of Saldana. Sheâs starred in Marvelâs Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel, as well as the adaptation of Vertigo Comicsâ The Losers. Saldana is also Uhura in the Star Trek reboot films, and Neytiri in James Cameronâs Avatar and its upcoming sequels. One of her first major film roles came in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and she has gone on to headline Colombiana (pictured above) and the TV remake of Rosemary’s Baby on NBC.
