Zach Braff’s ‘WISH I WAS HERE’ Acquired By Focus Features

Zach Braff is coming out of the Sundance Film Festival a happy camper this year, as his independent film “Wish I Was Here” just landed a distribution agreement with NBCUniversal’s Focus Features. The deal includes support in prints and advertising as well as a $2.75 million theatrical push to over 500 screens.

The Scrubs star, whose film directorial debut Garden State drew generally strong response, wrote, directed and starred in Wish I Was Here, but found himself on the receiving end of a slew of criticism for his Kickstarter campaign which raised over $2 million in crowdfunding. Many assumed he didn’t need the funding, but despite the slams from detractors, the film still emerged as one of the highlights of Sundance upon debuting this weekend. The film also stars Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Jim Parsons, Joey King, Pierce Gagnon, and Ashley Greene.

Man… some of the idiotic comments about this.

I don’t give a rat’s ass about the movie, but it’s so stupid that some people think there’s virtue in deliberately not understanding how wealth works. It’s just as ignorant as anything else, to refuse to accept the fact that no actor or director than can actually afford the risk of bankrolling an entire movie on their own (except maybe George Lucas, and he actually does that).

Just because a big number is big, it doesn’t mean it’s not still a minor fraction of another big number. You’d think so-called nerds would get that math. Movies are investments, just like the stock market. If you’ve got a problem with that, stop watching them (and good luck with that).
