Let’s a go!
The Mario Kart series has been around for well over 23 years (feeling old yet?), and in that time, fans have seen 11 iterations of the game, and tons of fan-made content. If you’re ever in the mood for some nostalgia, looking up Mario Kart videos on YouTube will reward you with old game footage, hilarious glitches, and folks riding around in go karts, garbed as your favorite characters. YouTube user NothingToDoCrew, for instance, rounded up a group of friends and had an all-out Mario Kart Balloon battle using roman candles. Check it out above.
Since the group didn’t have actual go karts at their disposal, they opted for crafting their own unique vehicles using cardboard. After that, they attached the usual 3 balloons to the kart, grabbed some roman candles, and started the race. The final moments came down the Mario and Donkey Kong, with the platforming plumber (of course) taking the final shot and winning the battle.
“As a huge fan of MK, I love watching the real life versions people put on youtube.” the crew writes in the video’s description. “Since most of them don’t do the video game justice, I thought I would call up the crew and see if we could put something together that the MK fans would approve of. (though we would have loved to be in real gokarts, these cardboard ones were all we could afford to make). This day truly brought us all back in time to our childhood dreams.”
The video is actually a sequel of sorts to one they released back in October. In that one, the team took a simpler approach, and just raced around in their cardboard karts. Witness the fun over on their channel.
Since running around and shooting roman candles at each other probably isn’t the safest thing to do, we don’t recommend trying this at home. It is fun to watch, however.
