Did you see this the other day? Google Goggles, the app for Android that’s meant to let you take a picture of a place or thing and have Google find information about it, can now, apparently, solve Sudoku puzzles.
Where was this a few years ago when people actually cared about Sudoku?
It’s cool, actually, that this thing can solve a puzzle just by “looking” at it, and I know that it can ultimately be applied in more interesting ways, but as for Sudoku, it’s kind of pointless — if you care about the solution to a Sudoku puzzle, you’re going to work the puzzle out yourself.
Or you’ll use your Android phone and apply the time you saved to something more productive. It can’t solve a Rubik’s Cube yet, can it?

And then it’s just a short step to hunting humans. Don’t these people watch sci fi movies? It’s essential to the future of the human race!

Yup. This is where it starts. First they’re solving sudoku faster than us, and before you know it they’ll be able to untangle cables and to turn pages in a newspaper without licking the tip of the finger.
All this does is reinforce the idea that Asians enjoy math.
I’m terrified that we’re hurtling towards SkyNet. This doesn’t help abate that fear.
