The rest of the country is easing into the holidays, but LA went straight for the jugular as the temperature dipped all the way down to the mid-thirties here at Nerdist headquarters. When temps get that frigid (relatively speaking) itâs nice to build up ceremonial pyre and burn your fatherâs partial-robot remains. Um. Maybe not everyoneâs holiday tradition, more like a Skywalker family exclusive.
Video Yule logs are a big part of the holiday season, especially for those who donât have the fire hazard/carcinogen factory that is an indoor fireplace. Nick Offerman recently released his video Yule log so that you can enjoy his company during the holidays, but if that isnât for you, perhaps youâd like to cozy up to a burning Lord Vader on your screen. Cybernetic limbs take quite a while to burn — five hours. Thatâs how long BenjaminAppleâs virtual Darth Vader Yule Log burns on his YouTube channel.
What better way to enjoy the holidays and The Force Awakens than with a burning Vader in your living room for all your guests to enjoy? Like other fun video Yule logs, this one comes complete with crackling fire sounds and bright flames. Stare at it long enough and youâd swear the room was getting hotter. I had it running for 40 minutes and had a sudden urge to grab…marshmallows for roasting and caroling out in the Hoth snow. There will be scary Force stories and tales of the glories of Endor battles long, long ago.
Will you be setting up the virtual Darth Vader Yule Log this Christmas? Let me know in the comments and tag @nerdist and @justjennrecipes on Instagram with pics of your Star Wars holiday traditions!
