Your Drink is Safe on Surprisingly Stabilized Tanks

“Derek, where’s your beer? What do you mean you left it on the tank…AGAIN?” As long as the tank was the Leopard 2, Derek doesn’t have to worry about his drink spilling everywhere. Or anywhere for that matter.

The above video from 1986 highlights the Leopard 2 main tank, created by Bundeswehr, the armed forces of Germany in 1970. Its main purpose is to demonstrate the ultra-stabilization of the tank’s main gun. Basically, it’s showing you how the gunner in the tank can keep the gun level regardless of how rough the terrain is.

They compare the tank (as best I could tell through the translation) to a top. In the above example, as the tank tips back and forth, the top stays upright. Now if you were to replace the top with the tank, and the tank with the ground, the same principle applies to the tank’s gun. The stabilizer seems to work on a gyroscope. For Batman fans, think of the second issue of The Dark Knight Returns. The leader of the Mutants had just crippled Batman, and Carrie Kelly is able to get him into the Batmobile. As he is resting on the gurney, the Batmobile hits rough terrain, but Batman is able to stay still.

And if BATMAN is using it, it has to be awesome, right?

So what do you think? What other food items would you want to test the Leopard 2’s stabilization with? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
