You probably wouldn’t guess that a couple of guys playing the cello would be capable of handling a kick-ass cover of an AC/DC song, but that’s only if you’ve never heard 2CELLOS take the stage before. And if you haven’t, then get prepared to be thunderstruck, because no other classical musicians pull off classic rock quite like they do.
This is the latest video from Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, and it comes from their fifth anniversary concert this past May at the Arena di Verona in Italy, where they took on one of AC/DC’s best, most well-known numbers: “Thunderstruck,” from the 1990 album The Razors Edge.
I’ve been listening to “Thunderstruck” for most of my life to get pumped up for everything from playing a hockey game to sweeping the floors of my apartment, and this version has me ready to do just about anything. When those drums kick in I’m pretty sure I could run through a brick wall.
At your ordinary rock concert, you want to be as close to the stage as possible. When the venue is an old Roman amphitheater, as it was for this show, we think we’d like to have a seat next to the blimp operator. Just look at the overhead images from this concert.
The music, the lights, the arena? Talk about leaving us shaking at the knees, and all from a couple of cellos.
What did you think of this cover? What other hard rock classic would you like to hear 2CELLOS cover next? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
