  1. David says:

Friggin hilarious hearing you talk about British people. Hey you forgot the bad teeth, faggoty vicars and chimerney sweeps! I think you’d be shocked and disappointed with the UK now – it just aint what it was 30 years ago. More like a naff homogenised US trade colony/immigration hotspot now than the old cliches foreigners always imagine.

“Bloody” is much tamer than “fuck” by the way – no-one says “bloody” any more. “Cunt”, while good old Anglo Saxon, is never on TV and frowned on in most public contexts, especially around women. More reserved for down the pub with the lads. Oh and outlandish fantasy films like “Lock, Stock…”. Only gay people or mental patients say “partner”. Everyone else says “girlfriend”/”boyfriend”, “husband”/”wife”.

Cold and unfeeling? Seriously? That’s such a myth. The world’s all been mixed up so fast for so long now, the differences are becoming so negligible that anyone who talks in those old cliched terms just sounds ridiculous now. Like you just watched a Noel Coward boxset over the weekend or something. Be better than that man.

Pete – you’d clean up in the UK. In my experience, English audiences really aren’t as bad as what Greg’s making out – more polite/forgiving and none of the hysterical random whooping that is the mainstay of US audiences. You’d probably find it a walkover but strangely quiet in between punchlines.

Used to love watching Greg on our version of Whose line is it Anyway in the late 80s/early 90s, along with Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Mike McShane. Greg was like a viper back then – Mercurial and terrifying!

Good call on Lego Sophie’s Choice! I bet the guy who thought of that thought of Lego Schindler’s List first, then thought “no, too much, pull it back”. Also well done for mentioning Stewart Lee – the man’s a genius condemned to the sidelines by his own material.

Fianlly, I’ve been listening to a few of your podcasts now Pete(love em – thank you) and you always remind me of The Joker with your maniacal out of control laugh. Perhaps more Cesar Romero than Heath Ledger – I think you’d play a great psycho in a movie either way(that’s not meant badly by the way).

  2. Lisa says:

HOLY. CRAP. The fake video game titles at the beginning were THE BEST. “Fuck You Wario 2: Fuck Your Mother” and “Daydrinking. released in Japan as ‘Pete’s Lonely Tuesday'” had me laughing for SO long. Loved, loved, loved it.

  3. Billy says:

Holy shit, Proops opened up a lot.

This was like eavesdropping on my weird uncles’ conversation at a family party.

I mean that in a good way.

  4. Andrew H says:

“I know his old act. ‘I have an apple.'”

  5. Julia Hays says:

Now I need to start playing video games, just so I can experience Lego: Sophie’s Choice.

  6. Matt H. says:

    Fantastic episode!

  7. Mathew says:

OMG! I also remember that Chester A. Arthur is the 21st president because of Die Hard 3. I am glad to know that I am in good company in my Chester A. Arthur knowledge.

  8. Cacilia says:

I used to watch WLIIA every week religiously as a preteen. I was lucky enough and so excited to see Greg Proops do his stand up to warm up the crowd when WLIIA came to Edmonton (I was in university). He was absolutely HILARIOUS! I loved this podcast. You’ve got me hooked Pete.

  9. Sarah says:

This was bloody terrific, but I hope you research British accents before coming to the UK, Pete. Most likely nobody has spoken like that since Dick Van Dyke in -Mary Poppins-.

  10. Lila says:

still laughing at “lego: sophie’s choice”

  11. Jessica says:

You just made surviving this hangover at work so much better thank you Pete for your wonderful podcast!!!!!!

  12. sharon says:

Oh, yes! I love this guy! Can’t wait to listen to you guys making it weird…
