pete said it best ” you blew my dick off” with that reincarnastion shit. you where everyone!

  2. Neha says:

Do another podcast Bo! This one turned me on to Sam Harris, really smart guy. Used a few of his arguments on my theist friends 😛 hehe. Love to hear more of your thoughts.

  3. brandonalsip says:

Pete Holmes is probably the only comic taller than Bo. I think that intimidation factor is the reason for the return.

  4. Patty Marvel says:

@Pete Holmes – I listened to a bunch of YMIWs yesterday to play Catch Up, so please forgive me if I’m posting this comment in the wrong thread.

RE: Who you want to date based on Drunk Pete vs. Sober Pete vs. Religious Pete, etc…it sounds like you’re trying REALLY hard to find someone who fits you to a T. That’s the problem. NO one is going to fit you perfectly. Even if you could somehow speed date the whole of the Earth’s population and find ten women who fit you BEST, each one of them will have something a little “off” to you, whether it’s slightly different religious beliefs (you said yourself the day of this recording you were feeling agnostic), or she’s a little “thicker” than you’d like or maybe all is right but she has no idea who Eckhart Tolle is and, by the way, she’s from Bangladesh and doesn’t speak a word of English (you DID just speed date the entire planet).

Do you remember the episode of “M.A.S.H.” where Hawkeye and Hot Lips are discussing their doomed relationships? He says their problem is, “We’re both waiting for a custom fit in an off-the-rack world.” Maybe you should find who fits you best – and who YOU fit on best – and go on knowing that it’ll be a little tight in some places and a little loose in others. If you two fit for the most part, you’ve got it made!

    :HUGS:

Come back to Cleveland sometime soon, Sweetie Petie! We loved you at the Grog Shop!

  5. raisinbraincrunch says:

The no-free-will concept really gave me pause (I hadn’t heard it for a while). But probably the reason Petie and I found it disturbing to completely regard brains as machines is that we think of machines as things that can be predicted to any degree of accuracy once enough knowledge and info has been gathered. But I think living brains are SO complex that they are NOT predictable in this way. It’s sort of like we have classical notions of relative motion that gradually become false when you approach lightspeed; the classical notion of “machine” gradually becomes inapt as the complexity increases. (Probably no one will read this but I still felt like writing it.)

  6. WalkingCivilWar says:

When Bo speaks he is so captivating. I find I hang on his every word which is no mean feat for me as I usually have the attention span of a moth. At the end of this episode I had to remind myself: THE GUY IS ONLY 22 YEARS OLD!

  7. Megan says:

I can’t stop looking at Bo’s vine. Thanks for bringing up this never ending source of joy, Pete.

  8. Arabrabbra says:

Love Bo. These are the types of people I wish the kids would look up to and listen too. Not tool boxes like Beiber and Kardashblahblahsss. Thanks PETE!

  9. Roman says:

Loved the episode, really good discussion about the brain mind consciousnesses vs the soul.

    @ Matt B,

Your right, there is a difference between Free Will and Agency.

the word you used there is absolute, and true free will requires that the choice be void of prior cause or divine intervention, therefore true free will could not possible exist because we live in a world that has a past.

    @ listener#56842

I dont think Bo is a determinist at all. Maybe a causal determinist. But that position is quite reasonable.

  10. LMFDO says:

Jesus. I thought Pete talked over people too much. I’m not even trolling. I like Bo, but Pete wasn’t necessary for Bo’s monologue.

  11. Matt B says:

Great episode and deep thoughts from Bo. I would point out that there is a difference between Free Will and agency. One can still act out and make decisions as a social subject even if their control over these actions may not be absolute.

  12. Posty says:

Almost exactly a year since the last one

  13. Clay says:

This was excellent listening to Bo was wonderful. I have never looked into Determinism but its super interesting…I don’t agree with all of it but it was great hearing about it.

  14. listener#56842 says:

So Bo Burnham is a determinist? Okay, cool. Maybe he should check out Spinoza.

  15. Sarah says:

I could listen an episode of You Made It Wierd everyday. Pete, I’m so happy for you that you got a late night show, but at the same time I also get anxious when I think they you won’t have as much time for your podcast!!!:0 :-/ 🙁 :
    :-{ )

  16. William says:

    HOW DO YOU LISTEN!!!!

  17. Nick says:

I hope he realizes later that no one could hear his list of live shows because of how loud the music was.

  18. I think interchangeable acting and the improv troupe feel of it is encouraging. Its very Cloud Atlas-y. Reminds us that all of us can be cops/playboys/terrorists. That we all wear masks etc…
What’s upsetting is that we associate the small pool of actors getting most of the work in Hollywood with “How come they get all the fun?”. Which is a bummer if you work in entertainment but a reminder that we could live our lives for real like that 🙂 Albert Camus has a great passage on Actors.

The Sam Harris ‘Free Will’ book isn’t so convincing. It starts off with a premise we can all agree with but its always going to be a circular argument I believe. The book kinda proves it.

  19. nichols says:

Bo! omg, he’s such a deep thinker!! wow I really appreciated the relationship talk.

  20. Brittany says:

So many moments in this one rocked my world. Thanks for the interesting and surprisingly deep perspectives, Pete & Bo!
    Boom! Boom! Boom!

  21. Bill says:

Why can’t I listen? How do I listen?

  22. Tyler says:

Talking about the problem with movie stars… Lincoln was so difficult for me to appreciate because I had so much trouble separating some of the actors from their iconic roles… There was Law & Order guy, Tommy Lee Jones, the dude from Third Rock (I realize they have names, but that’s how I kept thinking in the movie).

It’s such an artistic film that you miss a lot just because of the casting.
