  1. Just relistened to this after watching Spike Jonze’s ‘Her’. Their conversation on synthetic connection really hits on the themes of that movie. Great ep for repeat listens.

  2. Nolan says:

Here’s a video of the Wizard of Oz cartoon that Harland was referencing in case anyone else was looking for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SpT3Dq5kGo

  3. jimjim says:

    haha, @jordan, i also thought of “centri-fudge”

  4. jimjim says:

damn this episode was so freakin funny. The ‘ghost poop’. lol. thank you Harland and Pete

  5. Jordan says:

Pete, you missed the opportunity for “centri-fudge”! COME ON!

  6. Lisa says:

What a pleasant surprise this episode was! I expected it to be very light-hearted and silly, and was totally okay with that, but I was blown away how open and kind and sweet Harland seems. Maybe Pete has a way of bringing that out in people! Harland had some really touching stories and is clearly hilarious! Thanks for another wonderful episode, Pete!

  7. weirdoweirdoweirdo says:

oh, ol’ petey pants, another great episode.

i’m pretty sure you’ve said at some point that you are a fan of Deadwood. when you were talking about bank accounts and the illusion of meaning and all of that i kept thinking back to a line/episode title from Deadwood. “A Lie Agreed Upon.”

  8. ian Boothby says:

Ghost poop was fantastic. The thing about why we can’t do a Chinese accent and can do British ones for me has two reasons. One is you can call your own family members names but if someone else does it that’s a different thing. So Harland might come from a British or redneck background so it feels like doing those accents is making fun of his own group, a culture he knows and the assumption is has enough love for to balance things out. The other reason is it isn’t Harland doing the accent, it’s all the other people who have done it, 95% of the time in a bigoted mean spirited way. I say do the accent if you’ve got a reason to but don’t be surprised if people are offended because that’s what it’s been used to do in the past. Not fair? It’s like in swimming class when someone else takes a shit in the pool now no one can swim. Very funny episode.

  9. “Give me some cinnamon and hold me” Great ep.

  10. Patrick says:

Hi Pete! You think just like the Joker in Dark Knight with regards to a dark side in everyone. That what was he was trying to prove with the boats, but he was proven wrong. You are my number one guy!

  11. Klee27b says:

I am 20 minutes into this episode and I am laughing so hard I am CRYING.

  12. brd2185 says:

My long-forgotten inner philosophy major smiled while listening to this. Thank you for this podcast, generally, and this episode, specifically.

  13. laurabandypants says:

The Wizard of Oz cartoon/high-newspaper reading story gave me a laugh cramp. SO FUNNY! Thank you also, Mr. Williams, for sharing your flower-on-the-nowhere-mountain story. Really beautiful.

  14. Pammy Cakes says:

    Hi Pete!

I’m so glad you brought up Astral Projection in this episode! You haven’t talked about this in a while and I’ve been really missing it. I tried on several occasions (without success) to Astral Project, and kind of gave up out of sheer frustration :/

When do you think you and your 2 other comrades (Duncan Trussell and another comedian friend I can’t remember) will buckle down to experiment with this and maybe document your studies??

    Thanks! Love the show!!!

  15. Jon says:

I had some real misconceptions about what kind of guy Harland Williams was. My image of him was based on the broad comedy he was generally doing in movies.

I heard him on Doug’s show a while back and was surprised he was so down to Earth. He was great on this episode, very funny, thoughtful and engaging.

  16. happyyappy says:

Two of the awesome goofs in the business! Fuck, Pete! You are just a giant ogre of cuddliness!

  17. Patty Marvel says:

Greetings! Looking forward to this episode, but before hitting “play,” I had to share this…

Was Googling “Pete Homles tour schedule 2013” and THIS is what came up: http://www.concertboom.com/pete-holmes/tour-dates/

Bio info looks right, but I’ve NO farking clue who the guy with the vegetable brush hairdo is.

  18. Pete Holme says:

I appreciate the conspiracy note very much and have since gotten some great and thoughtful emails on the subject that made similar points. Weirdos are the best at articulating their concerns in thoughtful and gentle ways and I always appreciate that. In the future, it’ll be more I don’t knows I promise! (and I got sent a lot of great stuff about how 9/11 conspiracies aren’t acurate a lot of the time, too. It’s really a great world we live in where people hear me say something uninformed and then I get nice intel sent directly to me. I mean it!) thanks all.

  19. Brendan L says:

I feel like standing up for Pete and company (I know they dont need my help). It is a free podcast people….you want fact checking and tailored sensitivity, record your own boring podcast.

  20. Matt says:

Sorry, Harlan, but I’m calling you out. “I Don’t Like Mondays” is not about the sniper in Austin, but about an English girl that shot up her school. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, WILLIAMS.

  21. Roy G says:

    @Matt
    I agree.
That’s why I like this podcast and feel a bit of a dick for bringing this up.

But like I said before. My problem is not that Pete talks about stuff like 9/11, astral projection, ancient aliens etc. Or even that he hasn’t always got the facts straight. I really respect that he talks openly about his beliefs an discusses them with his guest in an open manner.

There is a problem is when it’s concluded:” Nobody knows.” instead of “I don’t know.”.
That is a rather broadsweeping assumption.

Or worse, like in the Matt McCarthy episode :”Nobody know’s for certain. It’s all just opinion.” (I’m paraphrasing).
I don’t think they were actually arguing that there is no such thing as a demonstrable fact. Still, pretty stupid and closeminded thing to say.:(

  22. matt says:

@Roy G. I kinda agree with you, and as someone who doesn’t really vibe well with conspiracy theories, I’m inclined to say that I want exactly what you want, but that’s not really the show. If I wanted to go really hear hard facts and scientifically correct conversations I’d go listen to a podcast that does that. For me, you made it weird is two people talking in “a safe place” as Pete always says. He knows he’s off base a lot and that his guests are, by trade, comedians and not experts in any of the issues that they talk about. But that’s kind of the beauty of it. I’m not coming here to get my facts, and yes some people may be doing that, and because of that what Pete is doing could be an issue. But usually, he’s pretty good at pointing out how little he really knows.

  23. Robin says:

While speaking of stereotypes- the sex through a hole in the sheet? Harland might want to go back and check his references on that one before saying it again.

Love the show. Love you, Pete. That one thing is just a pet peeve of mine, though.

  24. Andrew says:

“Put a pancake on your head and live, baby.”

One of the best episodes yet.

    Thanks, Mr. Pete!

  25. Roy G says:

    Pete.

I love the podcast so I feel a bit of a dick for bringing this up, but it’s because I care.
If you want to discuss things like ancient aliens or conspiracy theories do yourself a favour and read up on logical falacies and critical thinking.

It’s not THAT you discus them. It’s HOW.

The Matt McCarthy episode especially felt like a punch in the gut an I should’ve said something then. The false equivelancy of the 9/11 official story and the ‘truther’ version was painfull to listen to, as was the “it’s all just opinions, nobody knows for sure.” part.

Nobody benefits from wild acertions and unsound reasoning.

I like to leave a few links I hope you find interesting and thoughtprovoking.

A classical bit by Irish comedian Dara O’Briain.
    About being open minded.
And since it was brought up this episode and as an example of critically evaluating claims:
How the claims made by Ancient Aliens about the pyramids don’t hold up.

  26. Joe M says:

Pete needs to get Kat Dennings on the podcast. He would definitely make it a little weird…

  27. KDizzle53 says:

To the whole accent point, I think the difference between doing a mock British accent and a mock Chinese accent is that there’s a history of oppression and ridicule behind the latter that doesn’t exist with the former. One has a negative historical context while the other doesn’t, and the context doesn’t disappear in a comedy scenario. At least that’s my understanding of it.

Hilarious conversation though. Loved hearing from the guy who I saw growing up as a kid doing bits during JFL Comedy Channel compilations.

  28. Bobby G says:

I love hearing Katie laugh in the background. 🙂

  29. I love the fact that I figured out that Harland’s Canadian just by picking up on him saying sorry as “Soo-rry” instead of “sar-ry.”

  30. Melissa says:

GHOST POOP!!!!! oh man that had me dying of laughter

  31. tzvi says:

harland knows a lot about some stuff, but doesn’t know much about the penal system.

On a related note, Pete! you know you don’t have to just interview comedians. You live in a city with universities I bet you could easily find actual experts on the subjects you’re interested in and interview them. And I bet it would be compelling.

  32. Gucci says:

Pete you’ve really been slackin on the episode descriptions in 2013

  33. NeuroMan42 says:

“Icht schlicken dokken, lug dee lug.” – Fred Z. Randall

  34. Spencer says:

Only 20 minutes in, and this is already, beat-for-beat, one of the funniest guests that’s been on the show.

  35. Lauren says:

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. After having a crappy morning this podcast really brightened up my day. Harland is still so funny after so long, and of course Pete kills me with that infectious laugh of his. May need to listen to this one again.. (and again..)

  36. Oh! What a treat! Harland is, without, one of my favorite comedians, and I can’t wait to listen to this!
