Ian Karmel (comedy! Portland! @iankarmel!) is a ball of light, love and laughter and is a joy to behold. Pete was so glad to work with Ian, who opens regularly for Kyle Kinane (chic-ago!) and is a staple of the blossoming Portland comedy scene. Pete and Ian got to combine their joy forces at Pete’s hotel in Portland and this is the wonderful result. Please enjoy, weirdos!

You guys just hated on Portland way too much.. its a sweet place. Sorry you found some people that seemed to be “offended,” but way to generalize from a 1-2 groups of people. Very disappointed.
Just saw Ian for the first time tonight when Handler introduced him at the end of “Chelsea Lately”; he is their new staff writer! She had him do the “fat man in a little jacket” thing; I’ve always been a sucker for that bit.
this comment has nothing to do with this episode – but after having listened to several of your podcasts now pete- i stumbled across this and thought i’d share with you since you share your romantic life and the ‘ticking off the list’ conundrums…
from a miranda july project and found here: http://www.mhpbooks.com/composing-yourself-on-miranda-julys-we-think-alone/
keep making it weird!
Heti wrote to Kathryn Borel:
“loving someone means loving their ugliness. if you do not love also what’s worst in them, you do not really love them. it’s hard in a new relationship because every bit of ugliness is a surprise; but these are the parts that must be loved. or else it’s not love.
—and later in the same email:
I met an amazing choreographer at Yaddo—an 80 year old woman; Sally Gross. From NY. She told me that I was young. That there was enough time in my life for everything; being alone, being with women, with difficult men, with not- difficult men.
This was soothing. There’s enough time in my life for everything.”
I’m practically in tears, I’ve been laughing so hard at the last few minutes of the show! Good GRAVY, I’m so glad I started listening to this podcast!!!
:HUGS: to Pete and Ian.
The book! Viktor Frankl’s, “Man’s Search for Meaning?” (1:34:00-ish?)
The episode was awesome! Full of wonderful silliness. Next time though, do “we three kings” as chickens, thats where its at. 😀
I love that you committed to the Christmas meow song bit!
This was an awesome episode. I listened to it twice while driving through a blizzard in east Texas on christmas day. Thanks so much!

I had never heard of Karmel until this episode and he was so amazing! He just made a new fan. <3
I saw Ian open up for Kinane. It was only my second stand-up show ever. He was wonderful. I’m glad to hear that his career is doing well.
OMG! the song at the end was awesome!
Ian is like if Pete possessed Kinane 😀
Ian is the Mian! (pronounce the A more or it doesn’t work)
the meow part killed me. great podcast
What a wonderful way to end my week.
Merry Crispmas to you, Mr. Pete.
Merry Crispmas, one and all.
The cat singing had me busting a gut. i agree with Melissa, best ending EVER
Best ending EVER! <3
Just got to the part where they are talking about the shooting. Can’t listen to that with everything going on with the school shooting. Weird that this came up on this episode this week of all times. The world is sad and strange, thank god for laughter.
Ian was wonderful! What a happy, cheery, lovely guest for me to listen to at work on a Friday! Pete: personal progess for you, yay! You used to always refer to your ex-wife as “my wife” (with or without Borat voice), and now you say “my ex”. Well done! You’re the best, Pete.
