You Guys…There Could Have Been THE X-FILES LEGO

This is rather heartbreaking for fans of both paranormal investigative television dramas and highly detailed yet stylized building toy sets. Evidently, a LEGO Ideas set for The X-Files was submitted, but it was ultimately rejected by the building toy manufacturers for being too grown-up and having too many mature themes. The worst part? David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were totally behind it, as evidenced by a photo tweeted from Anderson’s account:

LEGO X-Files

The set was designed by Brent Waller, the man responsible for the amazingly awesome (and actually produced) Ghostbusters set from 2014. The set he designed, as you can see in the gallery below, is an amazingly detailed recreation of the X-Files offices, complete with Mulder’s “I Want To Believe” poster on the wall, a series of actual X-Files cases, and a picture of Samantha Mulder on the desk. He even made LEGO versions of the infamous giant xenon flashlights they used for dramatic effect.

What really bums me out about this whole thing is that there would totally be a market for an X-Files LEGO set of this nature, especially with the new show coming out soon. And the “mature themes” reasoning doesn’t make any sense to me. Yes, the show is pretty scary, but there are LEGO sets for things like Jurassic World where human beings get torn in half, or high-speed trains. I can think of nothing more mature than traveling by rail. And arguably Ghostbusters and Back to the Future are both much more mature than their content might indicate. There’s a Big Bang Theory set, for pity’s sake! That show is nothing but annoying people and sex references. Anyway, I’m just sore is all.
