You Can Officially Own the Actual House from AMITYVILLE HORROR

It’s time to start pooling your money, because the house from Amityville Horror is officially back on the market. Yes, for the low, low price of $850,000 dollars, you can own one of the most iconic haunted houses in American haunted history. You can see the house listed on Zillow to check it out for yourself. The house looks gorgeous and decidedly not-haunted, but that beautiful homestead hides a pretty grisly past. Back then, the house looked a bit more like this:

AHH

The house was the site of six horrific murders back in 1974, perpetrated by Ronald DeFeo Jr. upon his own family members. A few years later, the newest residents of the home, George and Kathy Lutz, said that their family was under attack by demonic forces that were believed to have been connected to the DeFeos. The Lutzes ultimately employed famous demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren to help rid the house of the malevolent spirits, and that encounter spawned a novel by Jay Anson, a film adaptation in ’79, a boatload of less-than-stellar sequels, and a remake starring Ryan Reynolds back in 2005.

Of course, the actual reality of how haunted the Amityville house is is actually pretty debatable. While you might love Amityville Horror and find yourself a bit obsessed with the Warrens after watching Paranormal State and The Conjuring (though that might just be me) there’s a pretty solid amount of evidence that shows the entire Lutz haunting was a fake.

The fact remains that the Amityville house is practically a historical monument in American horror and lore. While you may not buy into the haunting, buying that piece of well-known lore would not only cost you a giant chunk of money, it would also come with a pretty solid amount of unwanted public attention. Because the house’s location is so well known in popular culture, it’s not uncommon to have tourists poking around the property. So if you have an extra $850,000 lying around, maybe also look into installing a good security system.

And a solid exorcist. Just in case.

Do you buy the Amityville haunting story? Would you ever buy a house that is so steeped in popular culture and urban legend? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!
