YOOKA-LAYLEE Looks Like Charming Fun in New Trailer

Over a year ago, Playtonic Games—which consists of a group of former Rare (Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Perfect Dark) employees—unveiled their debut game: Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor to the beloved Banjo-Kazooie. The following day, the studio launched a Kickstarter campaign, which was funded in 30 minutes. Ever since, fans have been champing at the bit for more information regarding the colorful game. With E3 taking place next week, the developer has dropped a brand new trailer… and boy is it a good one. See for yourself at the top of the page.

We’re already in love, and can’t wait to check this out! In the trailer above, we see Yooka (the chameleon) and Laylee (the bat) show off some of their platforming moves in the game’s colorful setting. Did we mention there’s a snake with pants? No? Well, there’s a snake wearing pants and we’re already obsessed with him (because really, he’s wearing pants and we didn’t think that was possible).

Aside from the reveal that the game will be showcased at E3, the developer shared the unfortunate news that the release has been delayed to the first quarter of 2017. Gavin Price, Creative Director and MD of Playtonic had the following to say:

“After a lot of soul searching and knowing through dialogue with our fans that they value quality and polish above all, we’ve made the difficult decision to lock the release of Yooka-Laylee to Q1 2017. While we felt confident we could ship the game in October as originally planned, the team has decided that it would like to add a few extra months’ polish to our schedule. Ultimately, this will allow us to release a better game to the thousands of fans who’ve supported us throughout development.”

“We’re sure some will be disappointed by the prospect of a few extra months’ wait, however the Playtonic team is confident that we’ve made the right decision for the game and that you’ll be pleased with the results when the game arrives early next year.”
