One of the most enduring lines from 2017’s year in cinema came in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when a proud but naive Yondu screamed, “I’m Mary Poppins, ya’ll!” It was an instant classic, the kind of movie quote that will have a much longer life than Yondu himself (too soon?), and has inspired fans to create costumes, figures, and art imagining what a bona fide Yondu-Poppins crossover would look like. Hey, it even led to Michael Rooker himself sporting a very special I.D. badge at San Diego Comic-Con. And now we have the best tribute yet, because this time Yondu really is Mary Poppins in an amazing movie mash-up.
The team at the great YouTube channel How It Should Have Ended edited Rooker’s Yondu into the original 1964 Mary Poppins, and we would absolutely see this movie. In fairness to Yondu, while we don’t think he is necessarily the best choice as a magical babysitter, he did an okay job raising Peter Quill.
If you aren’t as good a singer as Julie Andrews it certainly helps to be a killer whistler.
This video has us wondering though, since Disney owns Marvel and they are also bringing us a new Mary Poppins movie next year with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, is there anyway to get Yondu a cameo? That’s called synergy, y’all!
Which character would be more successful in the other one’s movie, Mary Poppins as a member of the Guardians or Yondu in Edwardian England? We want to hear from y’all in our comments below.
