Yes Please We Want to Camp Like a Hobbit!

Oh hello! Did you know that there is a Kickstarter to build a very real Hobbit dwelling in England? There is! It’s pretty special. West Stow Pods is spearheading the project to bring a Poddit Hole to the Suffolk countryside. They’re working with Tolkien Society member Alan Baxter to make sure that their dwelling is as close to authentic as is possible. In addition to the making sure the finer details are as close to the book as possible, they are also honoring the surrounding environment by working with Jeffery Stuart Hart to build sustainably with modern, low-impact methods.

The owner of West Stow Pods told Mashable that he’s not actually that big of a fan of our beloved Lord of the Rings series himself. That’s why he’s working closely with Baxter to make sure he gets the details right. His real goal is to bring some awareness to the picturesque countryside of Suffolk and hopefully increase local tourism as enthusiasts visit.

Hidden behind the yellow door of the proposed dwelling will be two double bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, and living room complete with a log burner for you to use as a guest. If this thing gets funded, I will be there in a heartbeat. West Stow Pods already has installations in the surrounding area but this will be the first truly Hobbit inspired dwelling in their collection. The surrounding community also has an Anglo Saxon village nearby and is located near Kings Forest, Lark Valley and historic Bury St Edmunds. You can pledge to the Kickstarter at all levels of funding, and I have to say that the entry-level funding for a few nights stay reward is very reasonable!

West Stow Pods and the Hobbit dwelling Kickstarter will end Friday, August 21st. They are trying to raise $78K to complete the construction.
