#XFiles2015 Update: David Duchovny On Board for More X-FILES Too!

Oh, the power of podcasting. A mere nine days after Gillian Anderson appeared on the Nerdist Podcast, and she, Chris and Matt created the #XFiles2015 hashtag, it seems the wheels of paranormal investigation are in motion already. Over the weekend, at the seemingly endless TCAs, Fox confirmed that they’re in talks with X-Files creator Chris Carter for a mini-series continuation of the landmark sci-fi/horror series. We all knew Ms. Anderson is on board, but now it turns out Agent Mulder himself, David Duchovny, is also raring to put on the ol’ designer suit and fire up the oversized flashlight once again.

Duchovny told USA Today that not only would he be willing to do more X-Files, he’s “more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with [co-star] Gillian [Anderson] and [series creator] Chris [Carter].”

Those of you hoping for a lengthy season, though, should temper that excitement just a little, Duchovny adds. “I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season.” Both he and Anderson have other series commitments, and Anderson even spends most of her time in the United Kingdom.

Now, the real question here becomes if it is a limited series, not unlike the recent 24: Live Another Day, should it be about the alien conspiracy or should it be the famous Monster-of-the-Week episodes that became the most interesting part of the show as it went on? Some fans (read: just about all of them) were disappointed by the 2008 film continuation, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, specifically because it was just a MOTW-style story in feature film form, and not a particularly good one either.

I propose, if I have any say at all in the matter, that they do 7 episodes. The first one can re-establish the characters and where they are now and we can start up a new thread of the alien conspiracy which would continue in the second episode. Then, four episodes of MOTW that might have some greater conspiracy elements happening in the wraparound segments before finally finishing with a conclusion to the myth arc. That’d be the best of all worlds, I think. Mostly, we just want to see Mulder and Scully back together, doing what they do best, and throw in Walter Skinner for good measure

Are you excited about all this newly-refreshed X-Files talk? How would you like it to come back when it does? Let us hear about it in the comments below, and don’t forget to perpetuate #XFiles2015!

Can’t wait! Re-watching all of the old episodes now!! Definitely need some alien and conspiracy action. Also I agree on the 2008 film. I like where you are going with the story layout above. #XFiles2015

    YES< YES< YES!

  6. Trudy says:

    YES

    IBelieve

  8. Michael Sacal says:

They need to continue on from where the final episode of the series left off, resolve the alien invasion arc, and then end the reunion with the launch of a new arc for a possible series follow up headed by different protagonists. The audience didn’t invest all the time they did following the show to get robbed of a proper resolution to all the set up.

  9. Jammie says:

Bring it back full on!!!! Come one Mulder!!!!

  10. Amanda says:

As a huge fan of the show, I’ve had years to ponder what happened next. It’s a bit unhealthy but I digress. Ironically, as disappointing as IWTB was, it set up a perfect scenario.
Assume the 2012 invasion was more of a body snatchers scenario rather than full on ships hovering about thing, although that could be an epic build up and endgame. A big issue would be how can two people outside the FBI with no access or hacker support (Gunmen) stop an invasion?
Easiest way would be money, which will get you access. If the procedure Scully used on the boy at the end of IWTB worked, she just cured an incurable disease. Her medical innovation leads to bigger things and boom. Lots of money.
I think it would be an interesting turnaround. Scully and Mulder using science and their funding and access to find a way, in secret, to fight the invasion. They become a version of the Syndicate they fought for years. Plenty of support through the MUFON group and of course Skinner is in. And it’s not impossible to bring back The Lone Gunmen. This would also be a great time for William to show up since he has to be relevant to the invasion after all that perfect child/super soldier stuff. Depending on when a short series aired, he’d be between 13-14. Perfect age for those “Why did you give me up?… Oh. Ok, I want to fight the future too” talks.
There you go FOX. That should cover at least 7 episodes. Oh, and you better include one of those scenes with Mulder and Scully we were denied during the series. They did have a kid after all. Seriously. It’s time already.

  11. Sabine says:

I couldn’t be more excited. If it were up to me I’d focus on Mulder and Scully and include the Skinman. No Doggett/Reyes! I could live without a William resolution, since I don’t believe this storyline can ever be saved. MOTWs would probably be a safer choice. On the other hand, my only condition for watching is Mulder and Scully played by DD and GA.

  12. Randy says:

New limited series-great news! I think a regular series on the original Arthur Dales X-files from the series episodes set in the 50s(and IDW comic book) would be great too. Would be a great way to fill in time between the limited run modern day ones.

  13. ryan says:

I just hope mulder not a burnout loser in this new mini series, but that bad ass I remember that is ready to take on the system and give everyone the finger.

  14. Sina says:

Season 10 (at least the first two volumes) is pretty awesome, would be nice if they just kept the story they had for the comic. But I´m really excited.

  15. bkitty says:

    YES!!Does Kumail know?!!

  16. thexxit says:

I need to see William back with them! The one thing that will forever redeem an awesome show!

  17. Meghan says:

I’d love if they explained what happened to William, and maybe have him make an appearance. I think he’d be in his early 20s by now.

    • Gen says:

They explained that in the original series what happened with him… Scully put him up for adoption to the Van De Kamp family in an effort for him to live a normal life.

Or did you mean explain “how he turned out”?

    • JaeJae says:

I had the same thought, perhaps he has become an agent as well and he is the skeptic vs his parents? Ideas!!!

  18. john brutovsky says:

I think that it should be some sort of crossover with Fringe.

  19. Keith says:

They are going to have to revise the format of the show. It used to be that Mulder was the believer and Scully was the skeptic, then when David left the show it changed to Scully as believer and Doggit as the skeptic.  If they do it now its going to be Mulder  Scully, believer and believer.  So if they do… something is going to have to change.

  20. PaladinPool619 says:

So excited. X-Files: I Want to Believe is horrible and I had thought that it was the end of X-Files. Very glad to know that it is not.

  21. Robber says:

But what are Bill Gates’ thoughts?!

  22. Fernando says:

OMG this would be fantastic! It should be like Luther or Sherlock, to keep interest peaked and actors fresh/intereseted!

  23. LAB says:

I’d be happy with 8 to 10 episodes, sort of like an Agent Carter run.  Enough that I can elbow my kids and show them when television could be good but not so much that people start complaining and nitpicking just to have something to do.

  24. Amanda says:

    Now with 75% more jeans!

  25. si says:

    Bring Doggit back!

    • Keth says:

Have you seen how old he looks now?  On True Blood you could really see his age.

      • Freddie says:

Are you confusing Duchovny with Robert Patrick (Agent Doggett on X-Files)?
Patrick was in True Blood (Alcide’s father).  AFAIK, Duchovny was never in True Blood.
Also, they made Patrick look old on True Blood.  He looks a lot younger on Scorpion, which is on the air right now.

        • Gen says:

Pretty sure since they replied “have you seen how old he looks now?” to the “Bring Doggit back!” post, that they were NOT confusing Duchovny with Robert Patrick. Common sense would dictate this anyway.
