XCOM 2 Announced by 2K Games, Will Be PC Exclusive

After much speculation, we finally know that the obscure tease coming from 2K last week was indeed referring to XCOM 2. This is a direct sequel to the critically acclaimed turn-based strategy game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and will take place 20 years in sucession. The jump in chronology takes us to a grave time where aliens now control Earth and XCOM has gone guerrilla. Humans are in a dire situation. The game is set to release this November as a PC exclusive. More information is set to trickle in throughout this month, giving more insight on what we should expect in the new installment, as well as why the team chose to make it a PC exclusive.

Along with this news came a short but revealing trailer that you can enjoy above. Many loved the previous installment for its masterful strategic gameplay that used permanent death as a punishment for failure. Here’s hoping the excellent gameplay mechanics are as tight as ever this time around.

Even though a part of me still wishes that the reveal would have been a brand new Bioshock game, XCOM is a viable compromise. The only strange thing about this announcement is the fact that the game will only be on PC, excluding those that enjoyed Enemy Unknown on home consoles. Maybe sales weren’t to 2K’s liking on the home consoles. You can’t fault the publisher for making this choice if that;s the case. Just my educated guess, but luckily, we will get further explanation on the reasoning behind the seemingly unpopular choice.

With a release period that is not too long from now, expect to get a constant dose of footage in the coming weeks and months. Make sure to strategically place your thoughts on the announcement in the comments section below.
