Xbox One Controllers Now PC Capable

Starting today, new PC drivers will be available for download that will allow you to play your games using the Xbox One controller.

For those multi-platform gamers who get a better grasp of a game using a gamepad for PC, the Xbox One controller is now another alternative when playing gamepad-enabled games. The drivers are part of a larger Windows update that will occur in the near future, but you can download them now below:

Personally, I think this is great, since I’m not the greatest when it comes to playing first-person titles on a PC with a keyboard and mouse. My go-to has always to plug in my Xbox 360 controller. Now with this driver update, I can use my Xbox One controller which I’m looking forward to as I’m a fan of the controller’s thumbsticks. The only downside is that you need a micro USB cable to use the Xbox One controller and all of my cables are too short to sit comfortably away from my PC.

Despite my lack of cable length, it’s hard not to speculate why Microsoft is releasing this update now on the verge of E3. For the past few weeks they’ve stated that they’re going to do something that’s never been done before. Are they finally going to support cross-platform gaming 100%? Will they announce a Xbox and PC hybrid device? And is anyone else curious as to why Halo 2 is the game they’re showing off with the Xbox One controller? Let your speculations run rampant in the comments below.

In any case, we can look forward to Xbox’s E3 2014 media briefing on Monday, June 9 starting at 9:30AM PDT.

Stay tuned to Nerdist.com for more E3 news.
