X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST – ROGUE CUT Coming Next Summer

Although it has been rumored for sometime, 20th Century Fox made it official this week that Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past would be getting an extended DVD/Blu-ray edition with all the scenes featuring Ana Paquin’s Rogue put back into the movie. This longer version, which adds more than ten minutes of new footage, will be appropriately titled “The Rogue Cut”, even though other characters and sequences that were cut will be put back in the movie — not just hers. “Rogue Cut” has a nice double meaning, so I can see why they went with that. The film’s writer and producer Simon Kinberg made the announcement from Stage 21 on the Fox lot, where scenes for X-Men: First Class were filmed (e.g. when Magneto breaks Emma Frost out of the CIA). The newer extended cut of the movie will likely be available next summer. “It’s a big chunk, a substantial part of the movie; we want to give fans the fullest picture of the film — behind the camera, and in front of it, and provide more of the process we went through,” said Kinberg. “Every movie has scenes that are cut out, but not every movie has scenes cut out with such a beloved character.”

Kinberg made the announcement while promoting the upcoming theatrical version of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is available for digital download now and on DVD/Blu-ray on October 14th. It sounds to me like the “Rogue Cut” is long since done and could be released today, but Fox is looking to milk it for all it’s worth by releasing a theatrical edition this fall, and then another longer, more loaded with extras version less than a year later (and probably with previews and behind-the-scenes footage for X-Men: Apocalypse, which will likely have started filming by then). In my opinion, this kind of double dipping on movie releases, especially when they clearly already have another cut of the movie already finished, seems like a cash grab at the fan’s expense, and isn’t really that cool on the studio’s part. On the plus side though, they are letting fans know this far in advance…so if they want to wait till next summer to buy the movie, it’s not like they weren’t given plenty of notice.

  1. Kevin says:

this is pretty ridiculous, fans are savy enough these days to find out  when this is happening, all this will do is hurt the sales of the initial release because nobody’s going to buy two versions

  2. DJ Kento says:

Oh thanks. I won’t be buying this movie until then. Canceling my preorder immediately.

  3. chris says:

I see the hate about “double dripping” bit it has always been done.  “Theatrical and” extended, “unrated and others exist and always will.  I personally love that I could buy extreme extended LOTR. Either wait for the good stuff or be content with bare bones.

  4. Erik Kaiser says:

time to go cancel my pre-order

  5. WayneAP says:

I’ve waited this long for it to be released, I can wait until next summer so I only have to buy one version.  Attention Fox execs: ploy failed.

  6. TiffanyDawn says:

Any fellow Rogue fans read the Colorworld book series yet? The author is doing a convention tour to promote the books. I’ve read the two out so far. They’re really good!

  7. Prirate dave says:

And they wonder why people pirate movies.

  8. Thats great, I look forward to it… But why, once again must we have an ass shot of the female actor???

    • Arni says:

Same reason that male superheroes sport really muscular bodies: They are exaggerated instances of whatever gender they happen to be.

      • jj says:

The dudes having muscles is called male power fantasy, it’s why they’re drawn that way in the comics and why the actors have to beef up for films. Ass shots and boob windows for female characters are pure objectification, in other words: sexism. In both cases they’re selling to men. God forbid they admit women buy comics and go see superhero movies too.

  9. cj says:

It’s like day one DLC, but for movies. Why include the content when they can make more money selling it to you?

    • @T_Magus666 says:

yup. A total rip-off to the end user just so those executives can have a 5th car, a new house in the Bahamas and shit.

    • Coren says:

In a way, but this is a bit like announcing before you can buy the physical game that there’ll be a GOTY edition later if you prefer to wait.
