X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Will Feature Angel Fighting a Classic Villain

Next month, director Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse will bring Marvel’s mutant heroes into the ‘80s alongside a few characters who haven’t previously gotten a chance to shine on the big screen. But there’s at least one more classic mutant who has now been revealed to be in the movie by Singer himself.

There are minor spoilers ahead for X-Men: Apocalypse. So, consider yourselves warned!

On his Instagram account, Singer debuted an image of Ben Hardy’s Angel standing victorious at an underground cage fight. And Angel’s opponent was none other than Fred Dukes, a.k.a. the Blob!

X-Men Apocalypse The Blob

“Nothing moves the Blob?” It sure looks like Angel managed to knock him out in this case! Singer included the following caption for the photo: “Mutant Martial Arts. Light as a feather. #MMA.”

The Blob previously appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Kevin Durand portraying Dukes as a much younger and thinner man, before donning a fat suit and prosthetics to play the Blob’s older self.
In Marvel’s comic book universe, the Blob was one of the first enemies to go up against the X-Men before joining Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The Blob’s mutation gave him a massively obese body as well as superhuman strength and elastic skin that can’t be easily penetrated by foreign objects. The Blob is also nearly impossible to move from a standing position, due to his ability to create a gravity field beneath his feet.

X-Men: Apocalypse will be released on May 27.
