Next month, director Bryan Singerâs X-Men: Apocalypse will bring Marvelâs mutant heroes into the â80s alongside a few characters who havenât previously gotten a chance to shine on the big screen. But thereâs at least one more classic mutant who has now been revealed to be in the movie by Singer himself.
There are minor spoilers ahead for X-Men: Apocalypse. So, consider yourselves warned!
On his Instagram account, Singer debuted an image of Ben Hardyâs Angel standing victorious at an underground cage fight. And Angel’s opponent was none other than Fred Dukes, a.k.a. the Blob!
âNothing moves the Blob?â It sure looks like Angel managed to knock him out in this case! Singer included the following caption for the photo: âMutant Martial Arts. Light as a feather. #MMA.â
The Blob previously appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Kevin Durand portraying Dukes as a much younger and thinner man, before donning a fat suit and prosthetics to play the Blobâs older self.
In Marvelâs comic book universe, the Blob was one of the first enemies to go up against the X-Men before joining Magnetoâs Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The Blobâs mutation gave him a massively obese body as well as superhuman strength and elastic skin that canât be easily penetrated by foreign objects. The Blob is also nearly impossible to move from a standing position, due to his ability to create a gravity field beneath his feet.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released on May 27.
