X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Adds Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp

Chiwetel Ejiofor may be rumored to join Marvel’s Doctor Strange, but director Bryan Singer used Cerebro to tell all of Twitter exactly who will be playing Cyclops, Storm, and Jean Grey in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

In case you’re not super up to date on celebrity Twitter handles, young Storm will now be played by Alexandra Shipp (Straight Outta Compton, House of Anubis). alexandra-shipp Many had speculated, myself included, that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o would be playing the role of Storm in the 1980s-set sequel, but as long as Singer keeps his promise of giving us leather jacket-clad mohawk Storm, all will be right in the world. Next up, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner will be trading in one major franchise for another and her King’s Landing machinations for Omega-level telepathy as Jean Grey.shelby-steel Whoops, wrong photo there. Must have been thinking about the Golden Globes. That was Powers star Shelby Steel. This is the lemon cake-loving Sansa Stark you know and love. GoTS4e5sansa Last, but not least is Joe and Mud star Tye Sheridan, who will be donning the iconic ruby quartz glasses of Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops. FRANCE-ENTERTAINMENT-FILM-US-FESTIVAL-DEAUVILLE-RED CARPET In case you’re not familiar with Sheridan, he is a young force to be reckoned with; his performance in Mud was among my favorite in all of 2013, so he’s definitely one to keep on your radar going forward. All in all, I have to give it to Bryan Singer — between the returning First Class/Days of Future Past stars and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, he is assembling an excellent cast to close out this second trilogy of X-Men films. X-Men: Apocalypse comes out on May 27, 2016. For more on what this all means for the X-Men franchise going forward, our own editor-in-chief Brian Walton prepared a special video report:

  2. max says:

are we not talking about Brian Singer touching kids anymore?  How did that blow over completely?

    • Brian says:

Charges were dropped because the plaintiff claims he can’t find a lawyer to represent him after walking out on a $100k settlement.

    • Ryan says:

If you look at his cast choices, he still go for the barely legal think looking boys

  3. Kat Graham would have made an exponentially better Storm. She has the closer look, and Storm was BLACK, not LIGHT SKINNED. To boot, Alexandria Shipp put on a HORRIBLE performance in her Aaliyah interpretation, so again I’m confused as to how an African Goddess like STORM would end up in her youth as a crappy light skinned actress with bad teeth. It’s borderline racist to have her cast this way.

  4. Brian says:

I’m not interested in this film at all. Previous Wolverine… er, sorry, I mean, “X-Men” entries were disappointing. However, I do think these are good choices for these characters. As weary as I am of reboots, the X-Men franchise is one where I’d like to see everything that has come before wiped away and begun again in a closer-to-the-comics way.

  5. Rj says:

Will admit that Sophie Turner wouldn’t have been on my list for a young Jean Grey (can’t think so would be though). Don’t grey me wrong she’s great in GoTs but I just don’t see it.
Also please no mohawks and leather, it looks terrible…

  6. ed says:

I like ‘African Princess’ Storm better than ‘Leather Mohawk’ Storm myself. Something just the way Byrne drew that cape, holes, and hips I think looked better than the skinny Storm that Smith drew… So we’ll also see Kitty and Callisto (again, but younger) too?
