WTFridays: RICK AND MORTY Go Full-GUMBY, Cardboard STAR WARS, and More

YouTube’s KungFuDork Studios is no stranger to stop-motion animation—and in their latest short teamed up with Rick & Morty creator Justin Roiland to bring us some Gumby-fied (that’s the technical term) fun. Join Jessica Chobot for this and more slices of delightful weirdness from around the web on today’s Nerdist News, WTFridays edition.

Created by Dieter Wagner, the minute or so long episode finds Rick and Morty (both voiced by Roiland) on a planet that appears to have turned them into claymation versions of their former selves. Morty meets a “Gloop-topian” who very quickly takes to annoying Rick by transforming into suggestive shapes. The pair then realizes they’ve found themselves in a—as Rick puts it—”Gumby Thing” after being transformed into the familiar forms of Pokey the horse and Gumby the… Gumby? What was Gumby? He wasn’t human, right? But he had a family.

Let’s agree Gumby was a mutant of some sort.

Needless to say, if Rick & Morty were to eventually do an entire stop-motion episode it would actually fit the voice of the series perfectly. Fingers crossed that KungFuDork Studios are tapped when the time comes to do such an episode.

Thanks for watching today’s show! For those who missed her, Chobot reunited with Andrew Bowser on the latest episode of the Bizarre States podcast, and they’re talking about the Black Knight Satellite. Oooh, so spooky—make sure you check it out.

Do you think there should be an entire Gumby episode of Rick & Morty? Let us know in the comments below!
