WORLD WAR Z Sequel Hires Academy Award Nominated Screenwriter

The sequel to the 2013 summer hit World War Z starring Brad Pitt has gotten a new writer, according to Variety. Academy Award nominee Steven Knight will script the follow up to be directed by J.A. Bayona, who will replace Marc Forster.

Taking a look at Knight’s IMDb page is quite the adventure. The British screenwriter has most recently written and directed Locke starring Tom Hardy but is best known as a screenwriter, having penned films such as Dirty Pretty Things and Eastern Promises. He’s also the creator of the original British Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which I find completely fascinating. Knight’s the writer behind the upcoming The Hundred-Foot Journey and 2015’s Seventh Son, based on the book “The Spook’s Apprentice.”

Pitt will return to World War Z 2 as both producer and star. The new director, J.A. Bayona, is the man behind one of my favorite Guillermo del Toro produced films, The Orphanage (El orfanato). He directed Naomi Watts to an Oscar nomination in The Impossible and also helmed the first two episodes of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, the second of which featured a really awesome possession scene with Eva Green.

It seems that after the notoriously troubled production of the first installment, Pitt is bringing together a team who has a lot of experience making this kind of movie. While there are no details available regarding the plot of the follow up, most are assuming that it will follow the Max Brooks source material. A release date for World War Z 2 has not yet been announced.

I never read the book but I fucking hate that POS movie, it is honestly the worst zombie movie I have ever seen. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to make a pg-13 zombie movie, because dumbed down movies always turn out great.

Plot: Diseases don’t mask people from zombies anymore. Chaos ensues.

“While there are no details available regarding the plot of the follow up, most are assuming that it will follow the Max Brooks source material”… You mean like the last piece of self-important drek Mr. Jolie shat out? Watch while I hold my breath waiting on something even tangentially based on the brilliant and completely discarded source material.
