WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY Offers a Vibrant Adventure Across The FF Universe

Back in June, during Sony’s E3 showcase, Square Enix gave the world its first look at a new adventure through the Final Fantasy universe called World Of Final Fantasy. Now, Square Enix has released two more trailers for the game during this year’s Tokyo Game Show, both of which are aimed at their Japanese and European audiences. The trailer is still in Japanese, though the European release is subtitled, and the video gives a deeper look into the journey befalling two siblings who step inside a world where every Final Fantasy character and creature exists together. The press release for the game refers to it as being the beginning of a “new Final Fantasy franchise” and hints to the game’s play-style as a combination of “classic RPG gameplay mechanics with fresh and imaginative toy-like visuals.”

The story, which immediately takes after Kingdom Hearts vibe from a visual aspect, centers around two siblings and their connection to a mystical world known as Grymoire. It seems the two have been their before, or are possibly from there originally, and are invited to journey back to “find the Mirages they have lost.” Through their journey, they are revealed to be “Mirage Keepers” who have been in Grymoire before, but can’t seem to remember anything about their previous time there. It seems the two siblings will have to set out on a journey to discover their true selves and will receive help along the way from familiar creatures of the Final Fantasy series. Previous protagonists, such as Lighting and The Warrior of Light, also make an appearance, and you may remember that Cloud Strife made an appearance in the E3 footage as well.

With the Mirage Keeper title, one can assume that the siblings will be able to take creatures into battles with them, much like what was seen in Final Fantasy XIII-2, but we may see a return of the turn-based battle system if Square Enix is promising classic RPG gameplay. While the art style harkens to Kingdom Hearts at times, and seems to be built like a world of living Funko POP! dolls, hopefully the story will not turn out to be terribly watered down to maintain a kid-friendly atmosphere. Looking like Kingdom Hearts is one thing, but we’ll have to keep our hopes set on World of Final Fantasy telling a story like it too.

Let us know what you think of World of Final Fantasy in the comments below, and what other characters or creatures you hope show up in the game?
