New WONDER WOMAN 1984 Rumor May Reveal How Steve Trevor Returns

Warning: Potential spoilers are ahead for Wonder Woman 1984!

Steve Trevor doesn’t seem to catch a break when it comes to Wonder Woman‘s live-action projects. Back in the ’70s, the Wonder Woman TV series dealt with the time jump from World War II to the present by getting Lyle Waggoner to play both Steve Trevor, and his son, Steve Trevor Jr. But it meant the original Steve wasn’t around to reunite with Diana. Somehow, we don’t think Patty Jenkins will make Chris Pine pull out the whole Steve Trevor Jr. trick again, but there may be a way to bring back Steve from the great beyond that is fully consistent with Wonder Woman’s mythology. Today’s Nerdist News breaks down the latest rumor.

Join host Jessica Chobot as she runs down a rumor from Super Bro. Movies–emphasis on the word rumor. According to that site, Pedro Pascal’s character is no mere mortal; he’s a god in disguise who has found a way to make Diana do his bidding in return for bringing Steve Trevor back to life. That’s entirely plausible, if the god in question is Hades. Wonder Woman and Hades have a complicated history in the comics, but he is always the god of the underworld and master of the dead. If anyone can pull off that trick, it’s him.

The previous Wonder Woman movie already laid the groundwork for the gods to be hiding in plain sight. Ares pulled off the same con by pretending to be Sir Patrick Morgan. If Pascal is playing Hades or another god capable of performing a resurrection, it would greatly increase the personal stakes for Diana. Wonder Woman is always going to be true to herself, and that may ultimately force her to lose Steve Trevor twice. Still, that could make for some very entertaining drama in the sequel. Plus, who could say no to Steve Trevor in an ’80s style tracksuit?
