Could Wolverine Team Up With Thor In the MCU?

In the far distant past of 2017, a crossover between 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe seemed about as unlikely as a Marvel cameo by DC’s Superman. But the massive Disney and Fox deal was a real game-changer, with both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four possibly joining the MCU sometime in the next two years. But at least one Marvel star doesn’t want to wait that long. Today’s Nerdist News is about Chris Hemsworth‘s desire to see Thor take on Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine!

Join host and one of the last Valkyrie in the MCU, Jessica Chobot, as she goes over Hemsworth’s recent interview with Screen Rant. Hemsworth quickly said that he wanted to share the screen with Jackman’s iconic loner despite his apparent demise in Logan. “I just love Hugh Jackman,” said Hemsworth. “Unfortunately, he died in the last movie, didn’t he?” But after some coaxing, Hemsworth added “now that you’ve informed me that it’s a possibility, I’m going to get on the phone and try to coax him over or convince him and see if he has one more in him.”

Given the way Jackman wanted to end his time as Wolverine, one would think it would be harder to convince him to return than to raise Logan from the dead. But Jackman has already gone on record as being in favor of seeing Wolverine alongside the Avengers. Now, even though Jackman noted such an appearance would involve another actor in the role—what if there was a way to allow Jackman to make a one-shot appearance in the MCU?

Fortunately, Marvel’s comic book universe has many different ways that this could be pulled off in the MCU. As recently as 2015, Marvel mashed together its multiverse in Secret Wars, with alternate universe versions of every hero who were forced to live and fight on the same planet. We should add that this planet was under the control of Doctor Doom and he even had an army of Thors to do his bidding. That might be too esoteric for fans who don’t follow the comics, but the basic principle of Secret Wars could be used as a MCU event film and end with a reboot that merges all of the movieverse characters together. So Jackman’s older Logan could appear (from a timeline where he didn’t die) and his new younger counterpart could make his debut after that.
