Hugh Jackmanâs final turn as Marvelâs fan favorite mutant hero is moving forward, and now we know who will play the new villain in the third solo Wolverine film.
Variety broke the story that Boyd Holbrook is in negotiations to join Wolverine 3 as âthe chief of security for a global corporation pursuing [Wolverine].â That doesnât sound like any character in âOld Man Logan,â the comic book storyline that was rumored to be the basis of this sequel. In fact, Holbrookâs character may not even have a counterpart in Marvelâs comic book universe. If thatâs the case, then the question now is whether Wolverine 3 will even be based on a comic or if it will be an original story.
Holbrook is best known for starring in the Netflix original series Narcos, as well as his appearances in A Walk Among the Tombstones, Gone Girl, Hatfields & McCoys, Jane Got a Gun, and The Big C.
Patrick Stewart is confirmed to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier in Wolverine 3, but itâs currently unknown if any of the other X-Men cast members will appear in any capacity. Casting for the film is ongoing and production is expected to begin next month.
Wolverine 3 will be directed by James Mangold, and it will be released on March 3, 2017.
What do you think about Holbrook as Wolverineâs newest adversary? And do you think that Holbrookâs character will be based on one of Wolverineâs comic book adversaries? Share your theories in the comment section below!
