Universal has done wonders to make Wizarding World of Harry Potter an immersive experience. This is particularly true in Universal Orlando where they have Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley and a Hogwarts Express ride to transport you between the two. Attending the park is the next best thing to actually receiving a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The themed area has shows, but they haven’t experimented with the concept of themed events. Yet. That could be changing as Universal Orlando is reportedly considering hosting a Yule Ball.
Could you imagine? A Yule Ball hosted within the walls of the Wizarding World around the holidays? The Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London has found great success with special events like dining in the Great Hall, so it’s not a huge surprise for Wizarding World to start looking for similar opportunities. The possibility was reported by Orlando Informer; they explained a survey was sent to several guests asking about the appeal of various holiday events. The questionnaire asked about offerings for all of Universal’s Orlando location but these are the ones specific to Wizarding World:
- A nighttime show at Hogwarts Castle using 3D projection, lights, and more (included with park admission)
- Holiday party in both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley on select nights in December, including delicious holiday treats and beverages (separately ticketed event)
- Yule Ball and Great Dance Hall Dinner â “guests wear dress robes and dine/dance at a festive holiday Yule Ball with themed music, dancing, food and beverages.” (separately ticketed event)
- Special holiday performances by the Frog Choir, London Street Buskers, and other holiday themed surprises in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Here, Universal, have all my galleons and sickles. I’ll open a savings account at Gringotts now just in case.
Of course, these are only proposed ideas so nothing’s concrete. But a muggle can dream, right? If Universal Orlando experiments with some of these concepts and finds success, maybe Universal Hollywood could come up with scaled down versions. Nerdist has reached out to Universal Studios Orlando for a comment but had not heard back at the time of publication.
Which sorts of Harry Potter holiday activities would you like to see available at Wizarding World? Tell me your ideas in the comments.
