Window Gazing From San Francisco To Paris

I’m just getting back from a convention in Las Vegas, so forgive the delay in catching this, highlighted earlier today at Boing Boing. “This,” to be specific, is a time-lapse video shot out of the window of a flight from San Francisco to Paris that covers 5,576 miles and catches the Aurora Borealis.

I love stuff like this. Not enough to take the window seat rather than the aisle seat, though. And the most amazing part of this video is that the videographer had the row all to himself. That never happens to me anymore.

Is that an electronic device being used during takeoff and landing? He is so lucky that plane didn’t immediately fall apart or enter the Phantom Zone due to the completely unpredictable EM field of that low voltage battery operated camera.

Very cool, the (relatively) big town that passes during the aurora should be Iqaluit, NU. It’s one of my old stomping grounds, very neat little place actually. He is very lucky to have seen the aurora when he was facing south, it’s usually further west that where he saw it in the video.
